I am a self-taught artist, who is still very, very much learning. i'm a closet perfectionist and am never really happy with anything that i make, but I keep going because making art is as essential to my being as breathing.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What inspires you? What makes me want to pick up a pencil and start drawing varies from day-to-day. it's entirely cliched, for sure, but it's also entirely true. recently, my husband brought home a mouse and now I want to draw pictures of mice. i'll know when I'm inspired by something or someone when I spend entirely too much time researching the subject, rock a mild obsession with the object of my inspiration and my hands start to itch.
What is most important in life? In order of importance, which is to say they all tie for first place: my children, my husband, my extended family, my art and living my life as authentically and honestly as I can.
Are you a morning person or a night owl? I'm answering these FAQs at midnight. Also, sunlight is for day walkers and day walkers are vile. In other words I'm a night owl.
Where did you grow up? In the Pioneer Valley in Western Massachusetts. It's one of those places that you take entirely for granted and appreciate not-at-all until you move away from it. I've lived out of state for the last tenyears and every day of it I have wished I was back home.
Do you sell your art? Not currently, though I have donated several pieces to charity auctions and events. If you are interested in purchasing a print or an original piece, send me an email and we can discuss pricing.
Can I use your art in my publication/book/article/etc?With permission, yes, though I reserve the right to refuse any request. Send me an email telling me what piece you'd like to use and what for and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Do you have a day job?Yup. It eats up 40+ hours of my week. Fortunately, I work in advertising and marketing, so I can pretend that doodling at my desk is necessary to the creative process. ;-)
Other than your husband, do you have any pets? Yes. I have a bearded dragon, a rat, two mice and a turtle. I prefer animals with minimal poop.
Why do you use that annoying font on your website? I thought you were in advertising.I use it because it is exactly chaotic. I'm not trying to sell you a car. If I were, I'd be usingthis fontinstead!
How do you feel about comic sans? First, I wonder why it's even still a choice. Second, I wonder about the intelligence of anyone that still willingly uses that typeface; and then I wonder if they should be allowed near a computer.
What is your favorite medium, art-wise? It depends on my mood. Mostly, my go to medium is pencil, Sakura pen and Sakura koi water colors. Sakura didn't pay me to pimp their products. I just really like their stuff.
Have you taken any art classes? Not really, no. Not unless you count the ones in elementary school. I wish I had taken some classes, and may still yet, but I am entirely self-taught.
How long have you been making art? For as long as I can remember. When I was very wee, when I'd get mad at someone - usually my mom - I'd run for my construction paper and crayons and scribble my "crazy bird nest". Whoever I was mad at was the egg OUT of the nest. I think I was about two or three when I started doing that.
